So, where should I stay in Custer?

Custer Horse Campgrounds

I have put together a spreadsheet for all the horse campgrounds where we have stayed around Custer, South Dakota. I can't tell you which campground is right for you because it depends on what you want. Do you want a campground for a family reunion? I recommend the Mount Rushmore KOA. Do you have small kids? The Mount Rushmore KOA, again. Are you on a budget? Then, choose Iron Creek, French Creek, or Willow Creek. Do you want really friendly camp hosts who will treat you like family? Hell Canyon Horse Camp. Do you want full hook-up and great trails and be close to a town? Broken Arrow.

Are you a large group of riders? Hell Canyon, Broken Arrow, Elk Haven, or Bridle Ridge

I will tell you to book early - start calling in January or even book in September or October for the following summer. These campgrounds are popular and for good reason. The riding is gorgeous. There is so much history and plenty to do.

Check out the spreadsheet to help you decide. Keep in mind that private campgrounds change owners and the campgrounds will change over time as amenities get added and improvements are made.
