I made a rookie error, mostly because we haven't had decent internet at Willow Creek. I failed to double check the directions on the campground's website before heading out. As a result, I used Google Maps instead of reading the directions.
Google Maps takes you to a locked gate on Penny Lane and the only way out is to back up. Luckily, there is a driveway behind Penny Lane to back into, but unluckily there is a ditch.
Ari backed into the ditch. I was directing him on the walkie talkie, but he says he didn't hear me/
We took out the sewer outlet for our holding tanks.
We needed a local to help tow us back
onto the road and then we were back under way.
The way into Hay Creek Ranch is on Corral Creek Road to Lucky Strike Road - neither of which show up well on Google Maps. It is a dirt road with some rough sections.
Roughly, six miles of dirt road until you reach the campground.
There is a chain across the entry to keep cattle out of the campground.
We thought we might be able to repair the outlet on our own, but no luck. I called around and got us an appointment at Camping World in Rapid City on Thursday (we arrived at camp on Friday).
We went into Rapid City on Saturday to see if we could purchase materials that would allow us to dump our tanks. They were pretty full after five days at Willow Creek. We managed to use some HVAC tape to tape up the broken outlet and put an oil drip pan under the pipe for any spillage.
Hay Creek Ranch only offers partial hook-ups - electric and water. There is an RV dump with no water hose and the RV dump is tight to get in and out of with any trailer that is longer than 35 ft.
