We are currently staying at a private campsite in the Carson National Forest, about 35 miles west of Taos, New Mexico.
We are the only ones here, apparently this is early in the season. Our camp host, Holly, is lovely. We are paying $50 per night for water and electric hook-up, no sewer, no wifi.
Speaking of WIFI, the cell service here was pretty bad. Winegard announced a new deal with T-Mobile where you get 100GB of data for $50/month, so when I went into Taos I stopped at a T-Mobile store and bought a SIM card for our Winegard unit. Ari went on the roof and swapped out SIM cards.
We are both very happy with the new service.
Holly sent her neighbor, Erin, to act as our trail guide the morning after we arrived. She led us on a great ride. She has a Kentucky Mountain horse named Ace. First time we have ridden with someone who can keep up with Lennox at a walk. My horse gaited the entire ride just to keep up with the other two horses.
Ari and Erin on the trails.
We are here for the next four days, so it will be pretty relaxing, I expect.
Holly and Erin tried putting up trail markers, but the rangers took them down, so now they mark the trails with these little rock piles. You usually have line of sight between piles to keep you on the trail.
Is there a shower house at Taos Horse getaway.
